?Opening our doors for University Mentoring Day

We believe investing in the energy leaders of tomorrow is important. At our Bayway Refinery in Linden, New Jersey, the annual University Mentoring Day has proven to be a successful way to do that. It’s a highly anticipated event that gives students an opportunity to find out how a refinery’s maze of intertwining pipes, powerful equipment and complex infrastructure comes to life.

In addition, University Mentoring Day equips students with important skills needed to land a job in the energy industry and connects them with professional mentors in their field of interest. The event differs from classic recruiting opportunities, such as career fairs and on-campus information sessions, for a couple of reasons:

  1. The students come to OUR campus.
In addition to visiting the campuses from which the Bayway Refinery recruits during the fall, University Mentoring Day hosts students from several engineering societies to visit our campus for a firsthand experience.
  2. We spark their industry interest.
University Mentoring Day gives visiting students an opportunity to learn about our company and hear from experienced engineers about the significance of the energy industry as a whole.
  3. They learn how to land a job.
After students get a safety briefing and learn some refining basics, they break into small groups for a mentoring session with refinery employees. This is when they get the inside scoop on what it takes to stand out as an engineering job candidate. The event also includes a question-and-answer panel discussion between Phillips 66 new hires and recruits and an interviewing “do’s and don’ts” presentation.

Regardless of where the students choose to go after graduation, they leave University Mentoring Day as a stronger job candidate with a deeper knowledge of the energy industry. That’s something we’re proud to offer.
